"Life in Motion"
Rheine Neckar is an area about 50 miles south of Frankfurt and includes the
major cities of Mannheim, Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen. Ludwigshafen and
Mannheim are divided by the Rheine river and Heidelberg is about 10 miles ESE.
The area is known for the production of wine and spargel, a large white
asparagus that is delicious, tender, expensive and harvested about the time of
the Turnfest.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend loading Google Earth on your
computer and taking a virtual visit to check out the area and see photos,
panoramas and street views of the sights. If you are into YouTube, there
are lots of videos there that put movies of the area on your computer monitor.
There are less than 2 years to go. Below is a link to the official German
Turnfest website where they do have some early information. So far it is
only in German, but if you have a Google translation button, it does a very good
job of translating the words into English.
At the Aurora Turnfest we chatted with several Turners who had gone to previous
German National Turnfests and were keen to visit the next one. If
the economy holds, we could have a sizable group once again. If you are
interested in going,
send me an email and I'll keep you posted.
